This 100,000-gsf LEED-gold laboratory /office brings together researchers in physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, and the computational sciences to focus on brain function and neural circuits. The first institute the German-based Max Planck Society has established in the U.S., MPFI joins neuroscientists from MPFI, Scripps Florida, Florida Atlantic University and the Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies. The state-of-the-art facility includes research labs for undergraduate thru post-baccalaureate training, conference rooms, social spaces, a 100-seat auditorium, lunchroom, and administrative offices. Stringent sound and vibration control / structural isolation measures were carefully developed to isolate labs containing sensitive MRI equipment and electron microscopes, as well as the building’s vivarium.
