Signaling and Fire Alarm Testing

The National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) 72: National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code establishes specific guidelines for the intelligibility of voice communication alarm and signaling systems, the common measurement standard being the Speech Transmission Index (STI) and Common Intelligibility Scale (CIS).  We review existing acoustical characteristics of a building’s design (including room geometry, finishes and background noise) in conjunction with the signaling components of emergency communication devices and make recommendations to confirm acceptable STI and CIS values and compliance with NFPA Regulations.
